Mt. Evans
Elevation: 14,264'
Date: August 23, 2006
Climbers: Jody (solo)
Info: Another solo trip for the Jodster. This time really solo - I didn't see another person until I reached the summit, and those people all drove to the top. I decided to go the Mt. Spalding route and then cross the saddle to get to Mt. Evans. This turned out to be an excellent choice since there was an excellent view of Mt. Bierstadt and the sawtooth from Mt. Spalding. On the backside of the saddle on to Mt. Evans was a good-sized boulder field, that required a bit of scrambling and rockhopping skills (no problem for the Jodster). It was a little discouraging that after the beautiful trip over Spalding and across the ridge and then finally summiting Evans; I came over the top to a parking lot full of cars. After checking out the sites on top (mountain goats, old lookout station, and various landmark signs), I decided I better get down off this beast, so I found my trail that dropped right out of the parking lot; and was back at my truck about 30 minutes later. Here's how the time went on this trip: Trailhead at 7:15a - Summit of Mt. Spalding 8:00a - Mt. Evans summit at 9:15a - back at the truck 9:50a - back in town by 11a.
